This previous character does very little in the film, and disappears with no resolution. These characters and various plot points are added but serve no purpose.

Because the screenwriter thought this was an intriguing and frightening moment. Early on, a character who we later learn is an old sexual flame of Grey’s comes up to Anastasia on the street and stops her, then walks away without saying anything. The plot of the film is that Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) get back together and…well, that’s about it.Ĭharacters act in the way that is most convenient for the plot. Time is never taken to set up character, or character motivation, or narrative intrigue, or mystery, or compelling…anything. The script and narrative pace of this film is useless. Not only is Christian a sadist because of abuse in his past, but it is hinted at that all of his previous “submissives” are insane and violently obsessed with him. This miscategorization is not only limiting, it is reinforcing terrible homogeneity. 3) Academy Award-winner Kim Basinger appears, and should be in a better movie than this.īDSM is still viewed in this film as a community of psychologically-broken people. 2) As with its predecessor, the production design is well-conceived. 1) Star lighting showcases our “steamy” talent quite adequately. Purchase your tickets now at Fandango and don’t get sold out. I would recommend to PAY and see this film in theaters.įifty Shades Darker hits theaters today Friday, February 11th. This movie is more of a romance film than the first one and the actors seem to be a bit more comfortable in their roles than the first film. The film is not as kinky as the first one but there are still enough sex scenes to keep you entertained. To some extent I actually enjoyed and I am confident most of the audience will as well. Surprisingly, this film did not bother me as much as the first one did. I really wanted more backstory on these two women but I know this is a book to movie type of film and there is only so much material you can squeeze into 2 hours. Things quickly turn dangerous for the reunited couple and it forces Anastasia to question whether or not Christian can really change. Anastasia is also unwillingly introduced to the woman who started Christian down his kinky path, Elena Lincoln ( Kim Basinger), who does not approve of their relationship. Anastasia has blossomed into an independent woman who is sure of herself and what she really wants in the relationship.ĭuring the film, Anastasia is visited by one of Christian’s previous subs, Leila ( Bella Heathcote) who seems to be having issues of truly letting Christian go. He makes jokes and even smiles more which can show how their relationship has really had an effect on him. He still is still slightly mysterious, but he is more open. In this film, you see a bit more depth to who Christian Grey is. He inevitably succeeds, however, Anastasia wants to rewrite the rules. Christain realizes that ultimately he cannot spend his life without her and is determined to get her back. Christian ( Jaime Dornan) and Anastasia ( Dakota Johnson) are still broken up from their not so good visit to the bedroom that turned painful.

Fifty Shades Darker picks up not too far from where we left off in Fifty Shades of Grey.
